The Jil Sander-brand of minimalism is far from boring. This Milan-based fashion label is all about experimenting with different forms of dressing and how they can be simplified. The experimentation was continued by Luke and Lucie Mercier, the house’s current creative directors, for their spring 2019 collection. The couple explored uniform-dressing, continuing the successful narrative from their menswear offering, but focused on the pantsuit. Instead of churning out its normal incarnations, they put the pantsuit under the guise of artists’ uniforms: loose, oversized, yet completely refined. This artistic woman went down the runway in freeing silhouettes. Even the fabrics were experimented on, like the denim-cum-sheer outfits that looked like patches of art. While each look was still tailored to perfection, there was a certain ease that’s not always associated with the Jil Sander woman. This was certainly a welcome change, both for Jil Sander and the women who wear their clothes.
