Clothes don’t have to be frilly or avant-garde to evoke a sense of power. Sometimes, the right silhouette with the right fabric that’s cut in the right way is enough. And this was what Gabriela Hearst presented during her Spring 2019 show in New York Fashion Week. Clean and simple, the designer presented what was the pinnacle of American-style minimalism in an age where maximalism is reigning supreme. But even then, her clothes stood out and were celebrated for their exquisite cuts and luxurious fabrications. A pantsuit, for example, arguably Hearst’s forte, was slim-cut to perfection in the most glimmering metallic linen one has seen all Fashion week long. As did a similarly shimmering silk slip dress showed off by a model who held her lambskin coat instead of wearing it. This was the type of confidence women want to showcase themselves, and it won’t be long until they’ll be wearing these pieces on the street as well.
