Through the years, the Jil Sander brand has redefined feminity to look stronger and less fragile. Sure, women can still wear dresses, but what’s stopping them from wearing trousers too? This particular look was abundant in Luke and Lucie Meier‘s Fall 2019 collection for the beloved label. Whether it’s the more streamlined approach to help the wearer appear longer and leaner or the more interesting curvey-shaped forms that were bordering on avant-garde, wearing dresses with pants has become the new norm in modern minimalism. It adds a new dimension—one that explores the duality of strength within the feminine aesthetic. In such domineering shapes, the clothes were almost an extension of a woman’s armor, not necessarily as protection, but rather a projection of power. Even the skirted looks, most of which were sleeker than the dress-over-pants combo, had a confidence to them that was mighty but still approachable. And come fall, many women are bound to sport them, whether on the street or in the workplace!
