Doing a perfunctory search, it appeared to us that the Flawless Finish Foundation by e.l.f. Cosmetics was one of the cheapest liquid foundations out there, even in the drugstore. This was a huge factor in us deciding to try this product out because after all, who doesn’t like a good makeup bargain—provided the product doesn’t break you out or feel absolutely awful on the skin.
Fortunately, this foundation turned out to do neither of these things. From our first contact with this product’s heavy (more expensive-looking) frosted glass bottle, we were already a little bit blown away. Products like these at the drugstore usually come in much more price-appropriate packaging, so for this one to look more expensive than it actually sold for came as a surprise.
Now, the actual formula. We’re very happy to report that we were impressed by this formula. First of all, this product gives you good medium-to-full coverage if applied with a brush, so the brand definitely didn’t skimp out on that. Combined with its comfortable but beautiful semi-matte finish, our skin really did look flawless. Another advantage of this finish was that the foundation didn’t feel cakey or drying; it adhered to the skin just the right amount to wear for roughly six to eight hours before the face’s natural oils began to eat it up.
But we wouldn’t say that we had a perfect experience with this product. There were certain things that did bother us a lot about using it. First off, the pump for the liquid product was quite problematic. It sputtered out product unevenly, making it difficult to estimate exactly how much product we were using. The foundation also sets very quickly so we recommend only applying this product in smaller regions as opposed to doing your whole face at once.
Otherwise, this was a fun product to discover. For something that retails for much cheaper than other foundations out there, drugstore or otherwise, we got a lot out of this foundation. While we may not necessarily reach for it too much, it makes for a great alternative product if you need something that’ll work for you in a pinch.
