Dries Van Noten is one of those undisputed “Kings of Chic” that’s relatively rare in fashion nowadays. He specializes in creating clothes for mature women of any age that prefer to go for a more traditional elegant look. His spring 2019 womenswear show stands proof of his loyalty to sophisticated dressing. Against his usual play of prints and colors was a parade of couture-like outfits, each more elegant than the next. This time, he traded in his tailoring skills for exquisite draping, sculpting the most desirable skirts and dresses of this past fashion month. Despite the nods to old-school haute couture, the clothes still looked contemporary, fresh and youthful, perfect for a working woman and possibly her daughter. No other designer can achieve what Van Noten has in his many decades in the industry, and today’s women are lucky to still have him.
