Look up ‘Flawless Fashion Collection’ in the dictionary and Dries Van Noten’s Fall 2019 collection will be up there! Arguably, this was one his best outings yet, and definitely one of the supreme highlights of not just Paris Fashion Week, but of the entire Fall 2019 Fashion Month! The perfection (or almost perfection as others might put it) in this offering lies with the fact that Van Noten covered all bases of what women want in a wardrobe these days. They want femininity but also firmness, sophistication with strength, romantic yet rough enough to evoke power and confidence. The show began with a gray array of pinstriped tailoring that had the power women want to exhibit. Such suiting was exceptionally refined, not only in their masterful cuts but with how subtle the strength was shown in each look. Not before long, florals began peeping through—indelible Dries Van Noten signatures—within a soft palette of pastels that refreshed the eyes from the bleak grays that started the show. This season, the floral motifs were a lot more personal as they were actually photographs of the flowers the designer plucked from his own garden. He wanted to show their imperfect beauty, decorating them all over shimmering silk sheaths and bathrobe-esque coats, structured suits and outerwear, even on an oversized opera coat-like puffer! Ironically enough, there was almost a pragmatism to his romanticism, and it’s only through his incredibly refined eye that he achieved such a hybrid with ease. There’s no one in fashion today quite like Dries Van Noten!
