It’s difficult not to be somber these days, what with all the societal and political challenges and problems plaguing the world today. As a result, Dries Van Noten, known for his electric and romantic use of colors and prints, put on a toned-down Fall 2019 show. This isn’t to say that his signature romance was gone this season. In fact, it was very much still there but made more serious and a touch more somber. Here, he focused on the suit and how men should still dress up and go about their business despite the difficulties in the world today. A tie-dye effect gave it some personality—a somewhat youthful optimism in light of a dark world. And when the color came crashing on, via electric shades of purple and bright blotches of blue, orange, yellow, and more, the optimism was on overdrive. Melancholic or not, this kind of romanticism is what makes Van Noten a master of his own craft!
