For Fall 2019, Antonio Marras transported the fashion world to a more elegant time when sportswear was all about cashmere cardigans and florals were as dainty as ever. Inspired by the works of acclaimed artist Amedeo Modigliani, there was a serene sensuality to his nostalgic Fall 2019 show, which itself became the clothes’ most modern attribute. However, we’re sort of mixed with this line because, while it’s all beautiful and beguiling, it’s also a little too retro for our taste. From the schoolmaster-like men’s suits to the heavily embellished frilly frocks, you’d think the collection was the wardrobe for a period film instead of an actual collection for actual customers. Perhaps the puffer jackets and the patchworked pieces might sell, but their construction left a lot to be desired. The most beautiful in the show were definitely the rustic florals, especially on a pajama-like pantsuit and on silk dresses. But even they looked a little too old to merit any sort of excitement. Though Marras put his own modern spins on the collection, it’s clear he didn’t do it enough! While beautiful, this line was just too old-school to have any relevant place in the current fashion arena.
