The glamour of Country Western and 1950s rock’n’roll music informed Peter Dundas‘ new Fall 2019 collection. Entitled “Rhinestone Cowboys Going Graceland,” it’s all about the sparkle and bling of on-stage costumery, made much more refined for Hollywood red carpets and elegant affairs. The tailored flared suits of Elvis Presley were huge starting points this season, especially with the stunning velvet ensemble embellished with white-gold baroque details. If only he stayed within that principle. As the collection went on, the glamorous appeal lessened and leaned more towards a party-girl attitude that, while appealing for some, didn’t necessarily adhere to the main narrative. The animal-printed mini-dresses and satin frocks were very much Dundas-esque, but were also nothing and new and have been done since the designer himself debuted at Pucci all those years ago. The bohemian aspect was much stronger, especially the billowy granny dresses and embroidered denim. Had Dundas maximized that section too, this would have been a knock-out offering!
