What do you do when you lack enough resources? Rework vintage pieces! This is what Erin Beatty is doing with her new brand, Rentrayage. And while the concept is interesting and sustainable, the execution left a lot to be desired. For her Fall 2019 line was full of questionable looks that, though quirky, seemed a bit too gimmicky as well. Take a look at that first look of an empire-waisted floral frock made up of three vintage dresses. It’s not so much the patchworking of the clashing motifs that’s unnerving (though it does look odd), it’s the awful proportions that make it such an undesirable piece. A men’s pinstriped shirt with ruffles on the sleeves, on the other hand, undercuts what would have been a great item had Beatty been more strategic with her frills. And a military green puffer jacket with pale pink lace trimmings and a bow fastener just looked odd, plain and simple! Beatty obviously has a lot of exciting ideas, but she needs to tone everything down and edit if she wants this label to survive!
