As far as drugstore brands go, NYX Cosmetics has truly gone the extra mile to make high-quality but still-affordable products—maybe moreso than other drugstore brands out there. This high reputability is what has brought us to try out the brand’s HD Studio Photogenic Concealer Wand.
There’s plenty to love about NYX’s formulation for this concealer. First of all, we absolutely adore the shade range of this product. Looking at the range, we found it to be pretty expansive, and we particularly liked the addition of color-correcting shades to the line on top of the natural flesh-toned concealing shades. The quality of the liquid is quite emollient, and definitely very easy to blend out. With this particular concealer, it’s not too hard to achieve whatever look you’re trying to go for, whether it’s sheer or more intense and glammed-up. We also really appreciate the way this smoothes out the skin’s complexion. We notice with plenty of concealers that there’s almost a “mask” on top of the areas coated with concealer. With this product, the effect is a little bit more airbrushed, and it integrates quite well onto the skin.
Our primary cause for concern in terms of this product is that it needs a lot of help when it comes to staying on the skin. If this product isn’t set properly, it does become quite prone to creasing, effectively shortening its long-term wear time. Fortunately, the fix for this is quite easy: you really have to set this concealer if you have any intention of making it truly last.
That said, we really have no other major issues with this concealer, and in fact, we actually find it to be quite reliable for long-term use, provided you know what you’re in for with this particular product.
