“Industrial strength” is a bold and risky claim to attach to a concealer—doubly so if the concealer isn’t all that great to begin with. Thankfully, Benefit Cosmetics’ leap of faith for the Boi-ing Industrial Strength Concealer was absolutely warranted by this product’s solid formulation.
Yes, we enjoy this formula a lot. Right out of the pan, the creaminess of this product makes it an absolute dream to blend out. In terms of blendability, this concealer gives you room to find what works best for your routine—whether than’s applying with a brush, sheering out with a sponge, or tapping in with one’s fingers. And speaking of blending and coverage, while this definitely isn’t the most high-coverage concealer out there, we still were quite happy with the level of coverage it was able to create, which is a reinforced medium. Once this product sets, it gets very smooth especially when powdered down, but it’s important to note that the finish is neither fully matte nor fully dewy. Instead, this product locates itself in a nice, happy medium that feels great regardless of skin type. And finally, as the “industrial strength” part of its name implies, this concealer is strong, refusing to “go off into the good night” without a fight.
This said, we do have a couple of concerns about this product. Our main qualm lies in the product’s teensy shade range. For a product with such a strong coverage factor, it’s shocking that this range only includes three meager shades, which makes finding a good color match a bit of a chore. We also dislike the weight of this concealer. Even when it’s been set, and you’ve worn it out for a few hours, it never really stops feeling like it’s just sitting awkwardly on your skin instead of absolutely integrating, which we find just a bit off-putting.
Is this concealer perfect? Clearly, no. But is it among the best concealers we’ve been able to try out? Absolutely. Despite our gripes with this product, we generally find it to be a reliable concealer to bring into any makeup routine.
