We’ve heard plenty of great things about the Butter Gloss. NYX Cosmetics is a brand that we’ve really come to love in terms of drugstore products, and we really appreciate how solid, and sometimes unique, their products are. This is what drove us to try out these lip glosses, and we weren’t disappointed.
We have to say that we’re pretty impressed by these glosses. While they’re not an ultra-traditional take on lip glosses, its performance is relatively unique compared to other lip glosses we’ve tried.
First of all, the shade range is absolutely breathtaking. There are nearly 30 lovely colors in this collection, all of them named after some sort of sweet or dessert, which we think is an adorable naming motif for a “butter” gloss. This lip gloss also achieves a pretty good level of pigmentation, especially considering it’s a lip gloss. This is helped along by the fact that the formula doesn’t really focus on shine as much as creating a “lacquered” coat of color on the lips, which helps the pigmentation stand out much more than it normally would on a more high-shine lip gloss. Also, as with all lip glosses, this doesn’t wear too long, but when it fades out, it does leave a nice stain of color so the lips don’t look colorless once the product is gone.
But, on the other hand, we do have some notable gripes about this product. We don’t really like scented products, and this one has a lingering sweet vanilla-esque scent. Maybe some people will like it because it’s not sickening or anything, but it’s also just not for us. Also, for a product that’s not so high-shine, this lip gloss doesn’t have the “slip” we were looking for. Instead, the formula gets just a little bit too sticky.
Overall, this unique lip gloss formula really stands out for us as a great product. It’s certainly not the traditional lip gloss one might expect but it’s definitely a fun alternative to that kind of product, especially if what you need is a little more color.
