“An ode to England, really.” described Matty Bovan regarding his Fall 2019 show. In the midst of Brexit and other pressing matters, his motherland is in a bit of a tryst lately. And being the avant-garde, slightly dystopian designer that he is, he’s reflected that in his latest works. We felt we were looking at a rock show upon perusing his seasonal line. Each look had such raw emotion, a riot of feelings and ideas that just emanated from the lively creations. Though most were borderline unwearable, we couldn’t help but enjoy the avant-garde mastery of it all. Some, we wish, would be sold in stores as they looked chic enough to warrant retail interest. An earthy brown fur-trimmed coat, a mustard yellow and burgundy graphic draped skirt, and the brown suit with red piping that opened the show were just some fascinating and streetwise looks he can sell! Perhaps when women wear them on the streets of London, the atmosphere won’t seem so bleak anymore!
