Widely-printed cocktail frocks, double-breasted tailored evening gowns, and classic silhouettes. These are what inform Rebecca de Ravenel‘s latest line. Slightly veering away from her sexier and more youthful approach last season, her Fall 2019 collection is chockful of eveningwear pieces that the more mature crowd will likely resonate with. However, we should point out that, while the whole collection is quite beautiful and exquisite, it left a whole lot to be desired in terms of newness and creativity. Where were the exciting drapings? The daring cuts? Even the exotic textiles? The only thing we found exotic here were the prints de Ravenel used which were inspired by her recent trips to Turkey and India. But at their barest essentials, these pieces hold nothing new in terms cut, silhouette, and overall style. We hope de Ravenel’s signature risque aesthetic comes back next season instead!
