Laura Mercier Face Illuminator Highlighting Powder Review
Product Description
Right when you first see it in the pan, the Laura Mercier Face Illuminator Highlighting Powder immediately looks impressive, and it just gets better once you get to use it. The formula might be a powder, but unlike the chalky highlighters we’ve gotten so used to seeing on the market, this highlighter is comfortable and creamy, and delivers just the right amount of shine and glowiness to accent your makeup look. We had some issues picking it up on a brush, as well as getting the best wear time out of it, but generally, it’s a thoroughly enjoyable product, albeit dragged down by the issues it has.

These days, it seems that highlighters only come with two settings: too subtle to see or way too blinding. Enter: the Face Illuminator Highlighting Powder. With this highlighter, Laura Mercier attempts to find a good, solid middle ground between the two highlighter modes, and comes up with a product that more or less does that despite its kinks.

It’s clear from the pan that the formula of this product isn’t as chalky or powdery as other highlighters out there. Its texture and consistency is creamy all around which makes it very nice to the touch. Like we mentioned, this product thrives on finding that in-between level of glow, thus it provides just the right amount of customizability to get the perfect amount of shine out of the product. But truly, this product is the most beautiful once it has set on the skin. Once it integrates with the rest of your makeup, it results in a drop-dead gorgeous, lit from within glow that makes you look and feel like a goddess.

Our main gripe with this product is in the applicability. While it’s true that the texture is creamy, especially when you first swatch it with your finger, the annoying part comes when you try to pick it up with a brush. No brush—at least not among our arsenal—picks up just the right amount of product to get what you need out of it in one swipe, so there’s a lot of going back-and-forth. Another concern with this product is the wear time. While it’s not awful by any means, it does feel lacking, beginning to wear out somewhere in between the three or four-hour mark. And because the packaging is a little bit heavy, it might not be the kind of product you want to bring around with you when you’re on-the-go.

But honestly, we were mostly impressed by this product, even if the concerns we had about it somewhat dampened our total experience with it. We’d definitely enjoy it a lot more if its issues weren’t as hard to deal with, but as it stands, it’s a pretty solid highlighter.

SUITABLE FOR: All skin types.
