The category is… old-school glamour for the street! LaQuan Smith brought on the electrifying fabulosity of the late 80s/early 90s ball culture into his runway for Fall 2019. And while it was all as fierce and ferocious as ever, it had an upscale Park Avenue-tinge to that was surprisingly refined. Take the first look for instance, a plaid streamlined coat with a leopard print ascot and sexy dark tights. It had the classic tailoring down pat, but the hints of sheer and animal print provoked a rather sexual narrative underneath. This was further magnified by the array of minis that dominated most of the show—each was as seductive as the next. Though some of the 80s-esque shapes became a bit too over-the-top and looked rather dated, the overall spirit of the show resonated with all the optimistic glamour that was displayed! This is what fashion should be about, especially in these rather hard times!
