It’s amazing how even the most ethnic of influences can get a sportswear treatment. At Kenzo’s Fall 2019 show in Paris Men’s Fashion Week, creative director Humberto Leon and Carol Lim inflicted an exotic Peruvian touch to their brand of chic French sportswear, which was more evident on the womenswear than on the men. But the latter, however, evoked modernity that was still founded on many of the country’s aesthetic tropes, from the colorful blanket plaids to the hints of avant-garde prints florals found in the Central American country. Here, such were translated into tailored outerwear and easy sets of separates. Color was also a huge point this season for Kenzo. The vibrancy of their color-blocked ensembles resonated intense electricity, providing a youthful vibe within an offering entrenched with ancient influences. One look, in particular, a condensation of various hues from blue, dandelion yellow, and fiery orange was a feast for the eyes and will make any sportswear fans salivate with envy. Come fall, these are the pieces that are bound to be sold out!
