If you wanted a big bang of a show, look no further than Art School‘s runway this season. It had almost everything a 21st-century show needs—open inclusivity, body diversity, and a rebellious spirit. Though their Fall 2019 Menswear collection (if you want to call it “menswear”) is certainly not for everybody, there were a lot of compelling and fun ideas into the mix. These aren’t clothes that are likely to be shown in luxury retailers—and if they do, they’re more unlikely to sell at all—but they did give some groundbreaking statements. Seeing the men in body-hugging dresses, leather corsets, and mini-skirts was a pure celebration of the destruction of gender norms. It was freeing to see all that non-binary action on a high fashion runway, incredibly telling of where society is shifting to in this day and age. But back to the fashion, perhaps the most desirable pieces here were the gilded cocktail-wear and the massive parachute-like gowns. On and off the runway, they’ll surely make such impacts!
