It’s amazing how a designer can completely change his look from one season to the next. At his Marseilles-set beach fahsion show for Spring 2019 Menswear, Simon Porte Jacquemus was all about the bulging biceps and rippling muscles of his Adonis-like models, dressing them in the lightest and smallest clothes possible. But for Fall 2019, the Jacquemus man is all covered up, hiding his well-toned body under layers of earth-toned sportswear and slightly oversized separates. This season, the narrative is set in the rural area of Montpellier and is all about the French working class. Made out of cotton, wool, and linen, the designer emphasized that his pieces are all real clothes, albeit luxurious, that reflect the middle-class working lifestyle in the provinces outside of Paris. It’s all about giving comfort in the most savory shades of camel, olive green, and other somber hues. Pops of color came in the bright oranges and a striking mustard yellow tailored suit. Despite going for a more industrial look, however, Jacquemus still can’t help but instill his Parisian brand of quirkiness, seen here by way of a multi-colored knitted jacket and a printed short-suit. Jacquemus sure knows how to dress men well, and this season is no exception!
