Feng Chen Wang is one of those enigmatic designers who chooses to stay within the thin line that separates sporty streetwear and classic tailoring. As the fashion world slowly leans in one side of this spectrum, this designer understands that both are equally vital in this day and age. She proved the possible convergence of the two with her Fall 2019 Menswear show in London Fashion Menswear Week. This season, an array of traditional and sophisticated silhouettes were given an athletic treatment. A bit of the 90s came out with the high-waisted trousers, oversized parkas, and puffer jackets, as well as the front-worn caps and sling-back shoulder bags. Her incorporation of a floral motif was a tribute to her mother a gently and courageous woman who risked raising three children in a country where only one was allowed per household at the time. Through this reference, she was also able to give feminine touches on her largely masculine offering. This show proves that Feng Chen Wang has a knack to hybrid all sorts of concepts, and it’ll be exciting to see what she combines next.
