“Under The Sea” is a concept that’s ‘been there, done that’ for most designers, especially in the haute couture arena. But for Zuhair Murad to explore such an overused theme for his Spring 2019 haute couture collection and make it slightly unique was a commendable feat in of itself. It’s easy to think that such a reference is perfect for the Lebanese couturier, whose known world-wide for his fishtail evening gowns on the red carpets and beauty pageants. However, Murad had an unexpected approach to the theme this season, and instead of his usual array of mermaid trains, he went with the waves with billowy silks and chiffons that wafted on the runway. There was even a bright arctic blue number that was gradient with other pastel colors that looked like an underwater prism of oceanic hues, as well as a dark-to-light ruffled tulle confection that bared legs on the front and had show-stopping train at the back. Every girl sparkled on that runway, and while this was no fashion revolution, it was still such a sight to see all that prettiness!
