“Everyday evening” looks to be the new look Zac Posen has sought to take on with his contemporary sub-line, ZAC Zac Posen. It’s basically a more affordable medium for people to buy into the designer’s glamorous identity, just less sculptural and with fewer frills. Such was epitomized by the brand’s Fall 2019 collection—a sophisticated offering of simplicity and fluidity. While Posen’s main high-end line is all about haute couture-like sculptural gowns, this label, at least for this season, focused on languid draping and the beautiful embrace of fabrics on the female form. It’s most evident in the black-draped top with a diagonal hem. Whether paired with floral-printed trousers during the day or a similarly draped skirt for the night, the stark simplicity yet utter refinement is what the sub-brand stands for. Satin column dresses and tulle ball gowns also make up the line’s approachable elegance. We can’t deny, however, that all of these looks are absolutely boring. So much so that they almost don’t deserve to bear the name “Zac Posen” in their labels. Posen is one of the most creative dressmakers out there and for him to come up with this pedestrian a line is quite staggering. These are just clothes, not necessarily fashion, as there’s nothing new or exciting in them. They might as well put these in the department store than in high fashion retailers. They’d certainly fit better there!
