Everybody wants to live “La Dolce Vita,” even Rachel Zoe and her clients. Even for fall, it’s evident that the Mediterranean high life is still the life for the rich and famous, so it’s no surprise that the stylist-turned-designer looked into it as her main inspiration for her Fall 2019 collection. In many ways, La Dolce Vita is sort of like the Hollywood lifestyle, in it that their both desirable, fantastical, and extremely cinematic. This season, Zoe’s own version of the Italian phenomena consists of frilly boho-chic maxi dresses, fierce animal prints, and even some major suiting! A marigold frilly frock harkened back to the dusky yellow-toned Mediterranean destination and looks perfect for anyone looking to spend the holidays there. While a well-cut flared pantsuit in zebra print is the perfect ensemble to push old-school glamour into the forefront, whether on the red carpet or on the streets of Rome. Though the look pretty and chic, we can’t help feel that Rachel Zoe is just phoning it in. At this stage, she still hasn’t proven that she’s more designer than stylish as most of these looks, albeit are of high-quality, are just basics she can play stylist with. What’s new about her cutting? The way she used her animal prints? Or the silhouettes in her evening-wear? The answer to all of these questions is simply nothing. There’s little to no creativity here, and to be brutally honest, the only reason this is getting any traction is because of her name and prestige. Otherwise, had this been under a small name, these would have been the star pieces in a department store.
