For Fall 2019, newly-appointed creative director Mayte Allende is taking the nostalgia-route. However, one wouldn’t know it at first glance as this collection exemplifies sleek sophistication and modern vivaciousness. In fact, it might practically be just industry insiders who’d recognize the references to Thierry Mugler, Claude Montana, Emanuel Ungaro, Yves Saint Laurent, and more. Others will just see beautiful clothes fit for a contemporary high-class lifestyle. This is all part of Allende’s reinvention of the Bande Noir brand—make it more relevant to society women than just a mere label of luxury basics. The fearless use of prints, twisted takes on classic silhouettes, and the mix of various textiles make this offering a lot more fashion-forward than what has been expected from this contemporary brand. Decisively, there’s a lot more cocktail and eveningwear in this line, and arguably they’re the more show-stopping looks of the season. And as the Bande Noir woman dresses up a bit more, it’s evident that this label has a bright future ahead.
