Before the boom of high fashion sportswear, Stella McCartney was already a master of combining the two. Her clothes were always comfortable enough to play sports in, but done with such quality and skill that some pieces were tantamount to haute couture. For resort 2019, the Paris-based British designer sent forth a collection that harkened back to that same identity. Here, one-shoulder frilly dresses were worn with chunky sneakers, plain white-tees paired with high-waisted trousers and stilettos, and an array of delicate lace slip dresses and separates. Whichever aesthetic she decided to work on, there was always a nod to classic codes of femininity, even with the slight touches of masculinity. With the more tailored looks, McCartney also took note on her signature hybrid of feminine and masculine styles. Stella McCartney has always been a woman’s designer. And whether the woman is sporty or sophisticated, she’ll always have piece ready for her in this brand.
