Can sportswear be feminine? That is a question Stella McCartney has sought to answer throughout her years in the fashion industry. But beyond describing a style, this question, for her at least, alludes more to the freedom of women in their daily lives. Recently, McCartney just got full independence by buying back stake of her company from the luxury group Kering. She now has full control over her label and that confidence was seen throughout her spring 2019 show. There was confidence in trotting out a wallpaper floral-printed cycling bodysuit to begin a show that also featured softly tailored pantsuits. There was a certain courage in presenting ice skating-like dresses in candy pastels that were unapologetically girly and sophisticated, while the tie-dye pieces were carefree and easy. Only McCartney could achieve all these looks into one luxurious and cohesive collection. And now that she’s the only boss (again) of her own company, there’s plenty more where that came from!
