Seiko and Grand Seiko fans have a lot to pick from the Japanese brand’s arsenal of watches. But for the most fervent of them, the Japanese-only watches remain something to be fancied. Perhaps as an effort to expand their market and entice more followers, Seiko has released the Cocktail Time watches under the Presage line that have been popular in Japan but for the longest time have been largely unseen outside the country. The relatively affordable than most Seiko timepieces have been categorized into two: the SPRB watches which are simple with nothing more than hands and a date, and the SSA models that are more complex.

Of the eight models that have been released thus far, the Seiko Presage SRPB46 is distinct for its choice of colors. In a watch industry dominated by the blacks and the blues, the SRPB46 is a stand out in mocha. The watch which still falls under dressy without being too formal is designed in partnership with renowned bartender and mixologist Ishigaki Shinobu, who intended for it to be associated with the Manhattan.

Pros

If there is a word that we’d use to describe the Seiko Presage SRPB46, it would be alluring. The golden color of the case really brings out the rich brown color of the dial, which is close to coffee or mocha in hue. It is also very elegant and classy—the earthy colors with a touch of lush elicit a feel for the glamour of decades’ past despite the modern design. The mechanical watch has no problems in legibility as the indices and the hands still emerge even when your attention is taken away by the brown face that looks even lovelier when reflecting light. This beauty is equipped with both the Diashock and Seiko’s magic lever, making the watch user-friendly.

Cons

It may justify the price, but the movement inside the Seiko Presage SRPB46, the 4R35, is rather common and even a downgrade compared to that of the legendary but still affordable Seiko SARB065. The latter’s caliber has a longer power reserve compared to the SRPB46’s 41 hours, and is considerably built with better materials.
