No one does post-apocalyptic glamour quite like Rick Owens. He’s become a master of such and continues to be despite all the other young designers out there following in suit. But for Fall 2019, he referenced a few other designers who are into glamour and molded their own influences on fashion into his post-apocalyptic world. There was the rock’n’roll edge of Larry LeGaspi, the drapery and finesse of Mariano Fortuny, and the sculptural elegance of the great Charles James. He translated all of their amazing signatures and put his own spin on them, leading to an offering that as seductive and sensual as it was slightly sinister. Draped dresses and bodysuits were paired with tailored outerwear with rounded shoulders—a hybrid of Fortuny and James. LeGaspi references came in the studded pieces, be it on the bodysuits or the barrage of mini items that showed of the legs. And to close it all off, a parade of bodycon evening gowns that were cut and structured to perfection. A post-apocalyptic world never looked this good!
