Julien Dossena is not one to regurgitate classic looks for his modern fanbase, but for his Fall 2019 collection for Paco Rabanne, he couldn’t help it. “It’s about how you uplift yourself through dress. In the end, that’s all we expect from fashion. You know—that thrill when you wear something special? It gives you power; it gives you confidence.” he shared post-show. With this in mind, he crafted a modern take on Old Hollywood glamour that’ll be more palatable and relatable to the millennial crowd who, in recent years, have been fed the streetwear look. Arguably, a lot of pieces in this collection do adhere to that look, but they were glamorized so intently that one wouldn’t notice at first glance. All of what the fashion crowd saw was a contemporary take on old-school glamour. The slinky silver lame cocktail dress, for instance, looked befitting for a modern-day Jean Harlow. While the strong-shouldered Austen-esque military-style outerwear would have had Joan Crawford drooling for more. But where was the streetwear edge to all this? The clash of prints and layering—the new norm for fashionable millennials these days. Still, the elegance was still all there, making this line one what would have old and new clients running to the stores come fall!
