Fashion is all about taking risks and facing your fears, and for Fall 2019 Menswear, designer Daisuke Obana is the latest one to do so. His latest collection for N. Hoolywood is all about the tropes that he so intensely avoided—the likes of the color purple and camouflage print. But since he’s a streetwear designer, at some point, he had to take on such aesthetic cues. Trust Obana to turn them on their heads as combining the purple and the camo looked more like an avant-garde floral design than the standard shade and print. It even had a bit of a tropical feel to it, even though it decorated swiveling capes, long coats, and cargo pants. Other streetwear cues came in the form of slouchy knits, layered sportswear, and oversized denim. This further emphasized that the N. Hoolywood man isn’t caught up with the tailoring trend just yet, but is apparently following in suit, going for soft tailoring instead. Still, the show was as streetwear as ever, particularly with the New Balance sneakers—collaborative items between the brand and the footwear label. Along with the clothes, it won’t come as a surprise if these kicks will get as much hype come fall!
