Even before Clare Waight Keller came on the scene, Givenchy was already a streetwear staple among the millennial crowd. But in her Fall 2019 Menswear Collection for the label, her own take on streetwear is much more refined than that of the sportier and urban iterations of her predecessor, Riccardo Tisci. “There’s this same perverse poshness, wearing tailoring in a really sharp way, with a shirt or T-shirt,” Keller shared. Here, in her pursuit of courting the younger crowd, she isn’t sacrificing the sophistication and craftsmanship that’s within the history and vocabulary of Givenchy. Ultimately, this was a terribly chic collection, with sharp tailoring mixed together with easier pieces to make it all seem more approachable while still elegant. As the designer mentioned, she did pair t-shirts with tailored separates, as well as constructing a barrage of suits in various fabrications, colors, and styles. A precisely-cut black jacket, for instance, was paired with shimmering pleather trousers. While another was vividly color-blocked by way of a bright red-orange shirt underneath an azure suit. It’s these youthful takes that are bound to pique the interest of young and mature men alike, and hopefully, bring Givenchy back into the menswear game in full force!
