If we could encapsulate Lemaire’s Fall 2019 collection with just one word, it’d be sublime. Sublime tailoring, sublime textiles and textures used, sublime silhouettes—everything about this line was simply sublime. Though in our opinion, the styling could have been better, everything about the show still worked. Christophe Lemaire and partner Sarah-Linh Tran are all about fine fashions that are wearable and practical. Make no mistake, however, as their offerings are never boring, and neither was this one! This season, there was a sharper focus on form, with long elegant lines and more distinct shapes dominating the collection. From the cut of the jackets to the length of the trousers, there was a straightforwardness to this line that was refreshing, especially since other labels are focused on maximalist and streetwise gimmicks. The stark colors they used also highlighted the indelible quality of such fashions, particularly those creamy neutrals and the hints of cobalt blue (on denim, no less) and shamrock green. Another strong point was that these pieces were unisex—slightly gender-fluid in the most effortlessly elegant way! Though those tops and jackets with the rounder draped Edwardian-esque sleeves are a little more distinctly feminine. Still, we can’t rave enough about this sublime offering. It’s undoubtedly one of the best of the season!
