Though punk isn’t all that big nowadays, the attitude of it was massively present at the show of its queen and most prolific pioneers, Vivienne Westwood. Even with a more complete wardrobe of tailored suits and deconstructed dresses, we still felt that indelible edginess that has always made her works stand out, even though it’s been decades since her heyday. Her Fall 2019 show was nothing different, though this time, it carried a jarring message to “Save the Earth!” As climate change issues are pushed to the forefront, Westwood used her runway platform and invited speakers from various institutions to preach about the impending doom of Mother Earth. This, however, was against a backdrop of one of Westwood’s most wearable selections. That green plaid suit that opened the show, a dark plum skirt-suit, a pinstriped tuxedo, and a check coat were just a few highlights that showed this Dame of a designer still knew how to cut. Even that highlighter green cocoon coat Rose Mcgowan wore in the show was a killer! Meanwhile, cut-up satin frocks and aggressively-printed pieces upheld her almost apocalyptic messaging this season. But with such incredible fashions, most of which are sustainable, we’re feeling a bit more optimistic for this year’s fall season!
