Within the first few exits of their Fall 2019 show, Issey Miyake made a great case for ‘two-of-a-kind’ style. Sculptural coats and flowing dresses came out in two’s, and while each and every piece was unique, we almost felt that one without the other would feel incomplete. On their own, they are impactful clothes, conveying a sense of broken and natural softness even within their cocoon-like silhouettes. It seemed from the get-go that Yoshiyuki Miyamae‘s narrative this season was poetic—a strong sense of vulnerability that’s as beautiful as it is enigmatic. When they started going out one by one, however, the strength started pushing through in their electric shades of chartreuse, cobalt, tiger orange, burgundy, and plum. Suddenly, there was a more confident side to that vulnerability, particularly with more defined suiting. He traded in the sculptural elements with more accessible tailoring, giving everyday women a chance to wear such artistic styles. Clearly, the wearability of this line was much more apparent in this section, and with the vibrancy of such hues, made for eye-popping wardrobe choices come fall. All in all, we revealed at the majesty of the brand’s poetic creations and vibrant styles. Their sophistication and ingenuity know no bounds!
