“Scandal! Chaos! Panic!” These were the words plastered all over Jeremy Scott‘s latest line. Inspired by the current ‘fake news’ culture, he put out a Fall 2019 show that centered on attention-grabbing headlines and trigger words. The newspaper-like prints were in collaboration with contemporary artist Aleksandra Mir. And while these slogans were definitely show-stopping, they got old by mid-show. Though Scott is known for such gimmicks, he’s not one to overuse them for an entire 40+ look show. In repeating silhouettes of bulky sportswear shapes, punkish cropped separates, and poufy 80s-esque dresses, he overplayed his theme this season. We thought it was a bit lazy on his part to just repeat the same prints and styles over and over again, especially since he’s beloved for frequently going outside-the-box with his outlandish designs and vibrant colors. Here, it was as if Jeremy Scott wasn’t himself at all. We missed the color! We missed the exuberance! We missed the crazy! Here’s to hoping he brings them all back next season!
