We’re not sure what to make of Hillier Bartley’s Fall 2019 collection. Granted, it had a lot of interesting new ideas, we’re just not too keen on the overall execution. There’s also the question as to the practicality of said clothes, especially in these times wherein pragmatism is needed more than ever. Still, we commend Katie Hillier & Luella Bartley for their creative efforts. Their twisted takes on suiting were infinitely fascinating, especially how any woman can transform a full jacket into a cropped-top. A stunning tan iteration with a red-orange turtleneck had such sleek simplicity but also a distinct shape that was all too powerful. But then there were white shirts. Oversized and extravagant, they did nothing to push the narrative forward. And when styled with those juvenile-looking striped footwear (or are they garments), things went south! We really wish they focused on the tailoring instead and edited those childish looks out. This would have been a stronger Hillier Bartley collection had they done so!
