Who knew matching your floor could look so sleek? This was the bright idea creative director Richard René worked on for his Fall 2019 line for Guy Laroche. Most of his almost all-black ensembles had white lighting-like finishes that copied the striking patterns of marbleized floors. But does that upscale interior design feature look equally luxurious on fashion clothing? We agree—to a degree! We admit that the stark contrast of those white lines (or squiggles, we’re not sure!) looks striking enough and offers a new dimension to the all-black array of outfits. Without them, the show would have been devastatingly boring and bland. Though there were some looks that relied on their impactful silhouettes. That shimmering black leather coat-dress, for instance, was so strong and sexy that the only pieces worth pairing it with are luxury lingerie underneath! That A-line satin-looking frock near the end of the show was exceptionally elegant in an almost old-school kind of way. There were, however, some pieces which we could have lived without too. The worst one was that awkward-looking black leather maxi skirt with feathers on the hem—it just seemed so out of place! But all in all, we think this is a solid offering. And think how you can finally match your floors next season!
