You know the feeling when you’re just peacefully riding a car, about to doze off, and then suddenly the driver aggressively swerves and you wake up no longer knowing where you’re going? That’s what we felt seeing Karen Walker’s Fall 2019 collection. It’s not bad, by any means, but it was rather a total misdirection from where she was going to from last season. Her Pre-Fall 2019 line touched on intellectualism in a challenging and a rather chic way. Here, however, everything seemed lazy. And it’s not in the sense of the prairie lifestyle that this collection seemed to promote. It’s how Karen Walker leaned on cozy sweaters and pretty paisley prints to be the highlights of her seasonal line. Mind you, we don’t even think all of her knitwear is that good—that powder blue one with the flower-in-a-vase print is just boring! Though her denim, we admit, is strong this season! Her pre-seasonal offering, however, made it seem like she was going for a more layered and textile-rich line that would have been a lot more luxurious. Instead, we get this rather disappointing but still pleasant paisley-dominated series of floaty prairie dresses. Where’s the intellectualism? Where’s the richness? We hope Ms. Walker returns them next season!
