How to make your fashion look modern? Take on the sci-fi approach! At least, that’s what Christa Bösch and Cosima Gadient did for their latest Ottolinger collection. With a handful of metallics, some stern denim, and shimmering leather, they crafted a twisted and played-up array of classics that they, ultimately, deem to be the wardrobe of the future. In their Fall 2019 show, tailored suits were cut-up and reconstructed to form newer dimensions, tweed was formed into new shapes, and shimmering nylon and leather were ruched to the nines. Every fabric was manipulated to cause chaos and evoke a new idea that, while it may seem familiar, was completely new altogether. However, the overall execution was questionable. The re-structured suits didn’t seem to flatter the female figure all that much. The tweeds still looked old and date despite the new cuts. And a lot of the softer and more malleable textiles needed some good steaming! This type of carelessness is usually unforgivable for a brand of Ottolinger’s caliber, but maybe we can forgive them since they did put forth new and exciting ideas? In any case, they shouldn’t repeat such a mistake next season!
