Shakespeare gone sexy? Such as the narrative at David Koma’s Fall 2019 show. Inspired by the drama of Edwardian dressing, the London-based designer put his signature sexy spin on theatric costumery and Shakespearian references. It started with a parade of military-esque series of tailored looks, including a broad-shouldered pantsuit and a rounder mini skirt-suit with fur sleeves. The silhouettes went rounder and rounder as the show progressed, adding to the drama and Edwardian feel that inspired Koma to make this collection. However, at times the line went a lot sexier as well, with little black leather dresses that exposed a lot of skin to a strange yet slightly interesting red section of frilly dramatic ensembles that didn’t really add to the story of the show. By the finale, a studded array of party suits and mini frocks reigned supreme. At times—particularly with the big shoulders,—it went a little too 80s for some tastes, the closing part was essentially for the party girls who’ve become David Koma‘s best clients through the years. The likes of Jennifer Lopez and Kendall Jenner will probably be spotted in them come fall!
