Japanese designers are some of the most creative in the fashion world, there’s no question about it. But sometimes, their wild ideas barely translate well on the runway. This season, it happened to Hidenori Kumakiri. In his Fall 2019 show for his brand, Beautiful People, the people on that catwalk looked everything but beautiful. Though he had a lot of interesting ideas and numerous twists on tailoring, the overall execution just wasn’t all there. The fit was poor on most of the suits, the plaid usage was all over the place, and the styling was completely messy. Some proportions were even so awkward that we’re not sure if any woman of means would ever like to get their hands on such pieces. Still, the earthy palette was nice, as were some of the outerwear coats. Had Kumakiri been a lot stricter with his construction, we have no doubt this would have been an infinitely better offering!
