What’s to expect from Hervé Léger this season? Apparently, more of the same! In a rather disappointing way, creative director Christian Juul Nielsen relied too heavily on the brand’s signatures yet again. The strips dress, the body-hugging ruching, the fringes—they’re all back (well, they never really left!). But what’s even more offensive is that they weren’t even tweaked a little. All that’s offered in this Fall 2019 collection are basically rehashes of past creations. You can put such pieces side by side with the original iterations from the earlier decades and you might not see much difference at all! Not even the color palette was striking enough to hit a nerve. It’s a shame too, as there were many opportunities for Nielsen to have livened things up even when working with the same old signatures. For instance, the paisley-printed sweater was interesting enough and had he worked more with that concept, this might have been an infinitely better collection. Consequently, that blush pink slightly off-the-shoulder mini-dress would have worked better as a floor-length gown too! Had the brand twisted and turned such staples more, this might not have been as mediocre as eventually realized! If this goes on, this might as well be one of the last few collections of this heritage brand!
