In a surprising move, Mona Kowalska announced that her Fall 2019 collection for A Detacher will be her last. Although her label will go on without her, she’s off to other creative ventures that might lead to the same success as the brand’s, but for now, her latest offering was her beautiful swan song. And what an offering it was! In an effortless and simple way, she gathered iconic signatures from the two decades she’s been designing and highlighted their timelessness and endless appeal. From her cozy knitted jumpsuits to the body-hugging capes that were both dramatic and pragmatic, such pieces redefined contemporary fashions for a whole generation. What was new this season, however, was the trompe l’oeil slips attached to jersey dresses. They were reversible and had a soft layering to them that was as current as the streetwear stylings in other brands. But here, it also had a sophistication that was signature Kowalska. And whatever venture she’s off to in the next chapter of her life, the industry and her fans will always be grateful to her and her contributions to womenswear!
