Stacey Bendet called her latest line “Fantasia,” which was more than appropriate for such an animatedly nature-induced collection. For Fall 2019, the Alice + Olivia woman will be wearing a lot of florals and animal print in a rainbow palette that’s equal parts edgy, equal parts saccharine. Billowy maxi dresses reigned supreme here and were essentially modernized sexier versions of the granny dresses of the 1970s. The animal prints, on the other hand, were quite polarizing. On their own, they can be the perfect hints of fierceness to glamourize an outfit, but the way they’re styled here—mismatched with florals or paneled with other different animal skin patterns—slighty veered into tacky territory. Fortunately for the customer, such pieces are sold separately. But the tackiness continued by way of slogan t-shirts, bearing the sayings “Go Love Yourself” and “Strong Female Antagonist.” While such items would be perfect for the Women’s March, they had no place in the totality of the seasonal line whatsoever. There was, however, a touch of sophistication: an evening look of a velvet tuxedo jacket paired with perfectly cut silk pants. If anyone is going for a powerfully feminine and seductive ensemble for an evening affair, this is her best bet!
