We resume the hunt for the holy grail of lip glosses with the Full Vinyl Lip Lacquer from NARS Cosmetics. This product promises “high-octane shine” and “ultra-saturated” color. As we’ve come to trust NARS, we decided to give this product a little whirl, just to see if it held true to what it promised.
The product comes in a good range of colors, which is always a plus. Both classic colors and bolder ones are represented on this product’s spectrum, so there’s a lot to play with. The colors themselves are semi-opaque. Perhaps the brand’s claim of color saturation was a bit much to describe how this product’s colors present, but nonetheless, they do appear, and with great ease. The claim that the product is able to deliver most on is shine. Without using too much glitter, the product makes your lips look plump, juicy and highly reflective.
On the other hand, we did encounter some issues when it came to the formula of the product. The colors, though beautifully intense, also had a tendency to look patchy. Even going over patchy areas a few more times, the color wasn’t as even as it definitely could’ve been for this kind of formula, which made some of the bolder colors look a little bit awkward. A more specific quibble about this product is how sticky it gets over the day. Some people might appreciate this more, knowing that their lips feel just a little more hydrated, but to us, the tackiness of the product also made the gloss feel more heavy on the lips, more present, in a way that most glosses are generally able to avoid. In a way, it’s almost like wearing a liquid lipstick instead of a lip gloss.
With those concerns out of the way, we still think that the Full Vinyl Lip Lacquer was, for the most part, able to deliver on what it promised. The formula’s just a little bit bumpy, but as always, if you’re vigilant, these are problems that you’ll be able to figure out just in time.
