Jason Wu presented one of the most boring collections of the entire season. Even despite their quality construction and flattering silhouettes, his Fall 2019 offering for his Jason Wu Grey subline was just bland. We hate to say it, but it’s almost department store-worthy, up there in the office-wear section. While many other designer lines needed creative punches, this particular lot required a good beat down. Firstly, had Wu put in more color into the mix, instead of the standard greys and reds, this might have been more interesting. He also needed to stray away from his standard 40s and 50s shapes. We get it, he likes those decades (as we all!), but heavily relying on them season after season won’t do him any favors. His floral frocks, however, were nice. The powder blue one with round sleeves was particularly elegant and slightly impactful. Had he stayed within these lines, this would have been an infinitely better offering. Instead, we got this pedestrian mess. We’re not sure how well he’ll sell this season, but here’s to hoping he becomes more creative in future collections!
