Looks like Alessandro Michele of Gucci is the latest designer to be inspired by the 1980s as he presented the brand’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection. He usually forayed into the 60s and 70s territory, mostly playing with the eras of quirky Mod and the bohemian hippie look. This season, however, it’s almost all about the sharp tailoring the defined the excess of the 80s. Of course, Michele was still at his element here as excess is usually his signature style. A play on the Chanel suit—one of Michele’s favorite games—turned up a few times but in a more structured manner. There’s even a pink leather quilted ensemble that looks like what Linda Evangelista would have worn on the runway during her heyday. Outerwear was slightly oversized as well, adding a more cartoonish angle to his eccentric looks. All in all, these were the same campy confections that transformed Gucci into the megabrand it is now. And the fashion world continues to be charmed by it!
