Belgian sisters and design duo Carol and Sarah Piron really know how to inject a sense of humor into their fashion collections, and their Fall 2019 offering is no exception. This season, they take on the already over-used idea of mixing masculine and feminine identities, resulting in a mish-mash of hyper-sexualized streetwear. The sexualization here, however, doesn’t necessarily pertain to brash overtness (although there is a look that features denim hotpants worn over fishnet stockings), but rather it touched upon the strong presence of such tropes into each and every look. The Piron sisters named it “Powershift” and shared that the inspiration comes from mud-wresting and motor-crossing—the former represented in what appears to be mud-soaked denim and the latter is shown by tire-track prints in some pieces. And even with such rugged references, they still injected a bit of floral print, sequins, and draping for that indelible feminine touch. In any case, this wasn’t a subtle take on the hybrid at all, but maybe that’s what girls who’ll buy and wear these clothes appreciate in the brand!
