A few years ago, one would never think of mentioning ‘streetwear’ and ‘Giorgio Armani’ in the same sentence, but both had collided at the Emporio Armani’s spring 2019 show in Milan. The king of rigid refinement himself gave a sportswear and streetwear spin to his beloved subsidiary line. Emporio Armani has always targeted a more youthful market compared to Giorgio Armani, but this outing was incredibly specific. The slouchy metallic hoodies in semi-translucent nylon looked straight out of an Adidas or Nike luxe collection, while the crumpled up suits and dresses suggested a more eased up but still sophisticated youth. Strangely enough, the collection was both intrinsically Armani but astoundingly new coming from what is a known to be an empire of elegance.
